There are several areas in Antwerp where students live. The price of a room, flat or bedsit varies according to the neighbourhood and the type of accommodation.
A room has a shared bathroom and kitchen, while a flat or apartment usually has its own separate bathroom and kitchen. A bedsit is smaller than a flat or apartment, but also has its own bathroom and kitchen/kitchenette. The University of Antwerp has its own halls of residence. Rooms on campus are generally cheaper than privately-owned student rooms.
Accommodation in the city centre tends to be expensive, though prices in Antwerp are nowhere as steep as in Brussels or Louvain. Prices drop outside the ‘Leien’, Antwerp’s main boulevards, so don’t hesitate to check out some rooms farther away from campus. On top of that public transport runs smoothly and regularly, and a bicycle can be rented for next to nothing.
